• Write a concise and interesting paragraph here that explains what this course is about
  • Environmental chemistry is a broad area of study that overlaps with many other fields, such as climatology, oceanography, geology, ecology and even political science and public policy. The aim of this course is to leave the student with strong understanding of the fundamental aspects of the chemical processes that occur on the planet, both those which occur naturally, and those which are due to human activity. Much of the chemistry involved can be viewed as “Applied General Chemistry”, and the course will therefore reinforce (and perhaps illuminate) many concepts that should have been learned previously. The course will encompass fundamentals of atmospheric, aquatic, soil/geological chemistry, as well as energy issues. In addition, the course will introduce the fundamentals of Green chemistry, which is a relatively recent sub-discipline aimed at the design of environmentally benign chemicals and processes.

  • Emphasizes relationships of basic chemical principles and theories to properties of substances, their reactivity and uses. Contributions to the quality of life are introduced. Intended for science and engineering students.Three hours of lecture per week.
